Volunteer with Chess for Success

Chess for Success, a nonprofit organization whose mission it is to help children develop skills necessary for success in school and life by learning chess, is looking for volunteers to help with our chess clubs and tournaments. Volunteers DO NOT need to know how to play chess.

Chess club volunteers assist the coach in teaching chess to students. Chess clubs start anytime between 2:30-3:30 PM and run twice a week for an hour from mid-October through March. Volunteers can participate twice a week, once a week or- at a minimum- once every 2 weeks. Our program is in over 60 schools in the greater Portland Metro Area and a few schools in SW Washington.

Tournament volunteers help with registration, pairings and answer chess questions. We have over 30 tournaments a year that are typically on Saturdays and run between 4-8 hours. There are 23 Regional Tournaments throughout Oregon and over 10 tournaments in the greater Portland Metro area.
