About The Nature Conservancy: The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is an international conservation organization. The mission of TNC is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. In Oregon, The Nature Conservancy owns or manages 46 nature preserves and has helped protect over 494,000 acres of important habitat. About AmeriCorps Positions: AmeriCorps members will perform duties to advance the mission of the Conservancy for a full term of service equal to 1700 hours (approximately 40 hours per week for 11 months). They receive a modest living allowance of $11,100 annually, health insurance, reimbursement for service-related travel expenses, and are eligible for an education award in the amount of $4,725. Members will receive professional development training, mentorship, and will learn skills to advance their careers. To be eligible for this position and to enroll in AmeriCorps, an individual must commit to the full term of service. The individual must also be able to provide documentation that certifies they are at least 18 years of age and are a United States citizen, a United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien. Prior to beginning the term of service, applicants will be required to successfully pass a criminal background check, as required by the AmeriCorps enrollment process.

WORKING CONDITIONS: While in the field, AmeriCorps Conservation Team Member may serve in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. These positions may require long hours and work on evenings and weekends. These conditions require considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain, present frequent possibility of injury, and require long hours in isolated settings.

Salary / Pay Rate:No salary. Do receive a modest living allowance of $11,400 annually, health insurance, reimbursement for service-related travel expenses, and are eligible for an education award in the amount of $4,725.
Qualifications:• High school diploma. Bachelor’s degree preferred. • 1 year of training in science-related field or related experience in land management. Prior field experience preferred. • Experience recognizing plant and animal species. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to serve cooperatively with a number of staff, volunteers, and external parties, sometimes under pressure, in order to complete project goals in a timely manner. • Working knowledge of common software applications (Word, Excel, Web browsers) and database management skills including data entry and report production. • Ability to perform physical service, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather. Ability to operate various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (lawn mower, chainsaw, tractor, hand tools, boat, ATV, 4X4 vehicles, two-way radio).
