Research & Development Specialist for Innovative Housing Inc.

Innovative Housing Inc. has been awarded Technical Assistance funds from the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund to develop a CDFI that will provide comprehensive financial education and short-term, emergency loans to low-income residents of the Portland Metropolitan area. We are hiring a Research and Development Specialist to conduct research and activities necessary to develop business, marketing, licensing, and funding strategies relevant to the emerging CDFI.

Position:       Research and Development Specialist  (full-time)

Location:       Portland, Oregon

Summary of Position:

The Research and Development Specialist will conduct research and activities necessary to develop business, marketing, licensing and funding strategies relevant to an emerging Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).

Essential Responsibilities:

Conduct demographic and market research

Research usage of payday loan and check cashing services in the Portland-Metro area

Compile list of Portland-Metro area Financial Service Providers

Research and identify advertising strategies for new lending institution

Research and pursue funding opportunities for emerging CDFI

Explore and establish community partnerships relevant to the emerging CDFI

Research and complete licensing requirements for short-term lending and check cashing businesses

Complete research and compile information necessary for achieving CDFI certification

Apply for CDFI certification

Research and develop effective evaluation methods

Work with consultant to develop loan products, underwriting policies and procedures and financial/risk management strategies

Work with consultant to develop Management Information Systems

Qualifications:

An independent, self-motivated, creative and resourceful individual committed to IHI’s mission

Knowledge of the Portland-Metro area business climate

Familiarity with financial and banking industry

Experience with market research and development of business plans

Strong organizational and written and oral communication skills

Bachelor degree in relevant field.  Masters preferred.

Experience conducting both qualitative and quantitative research

Experience coordinating community partnerships

Experience grant writing

Competent in Microsoft Office Suite

Valid drivers license and personal vehicle

Compensation:

Annual salary of $45,000 plus competitive benefits package.
