Am. Cancer Soc. seeks volunteers to help staff Cancer Resource Centers

The American Cancer Society seeks dedicated volunteer become the operations chair at the Legacy Good Samaritan’s Cancer Resource Center in NW Portland, OR.

The Cancer Resource Center (CRC) is a partnership between the American Cancer Society and Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital and is entirely volunteer-run. The CRC provides clients with information and referrals for services such as free wig-fittings, overnight housing for those who travel for treatment, and home-visits.

As a CRC operations chair, you will have the opportunity to make an enormous difference in the quality of life for cancer patients, caregivers, and their families. The CRC provides clients with information and referrals for services such as free wig-fittings, overnight housing for those who travel for treatment, and home-visits. The operations chair ensure that volunteers staffing the CRC are providing us with the documentation needed to report how many cancer patients are served by the CRC and ensures that the center is stocked with the necessary resources.

Anyone can volunteer, provided they are committed to improving quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Our volunteers range in age and experience and can be anyone from pre-medical students to stay at home parents and retirees. Working as a Cancer Resource Center volunteer is a challenging and richly rewarding experience and we welcome any inquiries at [email protected]. The duties of the Operations Chair include: 1. Manage supplies and inventory 2. Monitor service and volunteer performance 3. Ensure all volunteer application and training forms are submitted in a timely manner 4. Ensure all documentation regarding patient contacts are documented and submitted 5. Identify volunteer training needs 6. Assist with volunteer recruitment 7. Attend monthly CRC committee meetings

Requirements:

- Excellent communication skills, especially active listening

- Ability to conduct work in professional and compassionate manner and maintain confidentiality

- Available for one shift weekly or bi-weekly during the hours of 9am-12:30pm or 12:30pm to 4pm Monday through Friday and available one evening per month for committee meetings

- Committed to improving quality of life for cancer patients and caregivers
