About the Position:  The Program Coordinator is a key staff position within this small local non-profit.  This position leads and supports healthy homes and blood lead testing programs in the Portland Metro area.  The ideal candidate is a strong communicator that is skilled at multi-tasking and thrives in a fast-paced grassroots environment.

 

 

About the Organization:  Josiah Hill III Clinic's (JHC) mission is to protect children from environmental hazards and promote community action for healthy homes.  JHC is grassroots community-based organization that works in collaboration to create healthy and safe homes for Portland Metro Area families.  The organization is unique in that it utilizes trained volunteers and community leaders to provide environmental health education, blood lead testing, and healthy home check-ups.  Learn more about JHC at www.jhillclinic.org

 

 

 

Job Description

 

Title:  Program Coordinator

Reports To:  Executive Director

Status:  Exempt, benefit eligible

FTE:  1.0 fte 

Salary Range:  $27,000-33,000 annually DOE

Benefits:  Employer provides $300/month which the employee may

choose to apply to a Kaiser Health Plan, a flexible spending account for medical or dependent care,

and/or cash out as part of payroll.

 

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

Environmental Health Services-Healthy Homes and Toxin Reduction

 

*Develop/update culturally appropriate trainings on green cleaning

and healthy homes (i.e. indoor air quality and lead) for health promoters as well as community residents

 

*Conduct healthy home checkups/indoor air quality assessments

 

*Collaborate with partners for cross referrals and collaborative services

 

*Conduct outreach at community events and fairs

 

*Track progress and ensure project is delivering outcomes in designated timeframe

 

*Write progress and final reports

 

 

Blood Lead Testing Clinics

 

*Schedule blood lead testing clinics

 

*Facilitate clinics and assist with direct service as necessary

 

*Ensure quality control protocols are being followed

 

*Maintain database and follow reporting requirements

 

 

Community Engagement & Volunteer Management

 

*Recruit, train, and recognize volunteers

 

*Engage and empower leaders from the community

 

*Effectively utilizes volunteers to achieve project goals

 

*Develop/update volunteer trainings

 

*Assist with volunteer recognition events and activities

 

 

Fund Development

 

*Leverage in-kind donations for project activities

 

*Assist with fundraising events by working with the Director to highlight program successes

 

 

Required Minimum Qualifications and Desired Skills:    

 

*Bachelors degree and three years of related professional experience

 

*Experience working in and collaborating with diverse communities

 

*Excellent time management and organizational skills

 

*Detail oriented

 

*Experience following project work plans to produce outcomes and reach goals

 

*Strong communicator (verbal and written)

 

*Experience developing programs and initiating partnerships

 

*Knowledge and professional experience working on health issues

 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Desired Skills:         

 

*Volunteer management experience

 

*Familiarity with N/NE Portland and/or East Portland

 

*Experience working on asthma and/or lead poisoning prevention

 

*Proficiency in a second language in addition to English

 

 

 

Other Requirements:

 

Personal car transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area.  Must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.

 

 

 

Work Environment & Hours:

 

Work is performed in a variety of settings including but not limited to: an office environment (located close-in on NE Alberta), community settings, and

home visitation.   Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9am until

5pm.  Some evening and weekend work is necessary.
