Oregon New Sanctuary Movement Coordinator Job Description Applications due Monday, October 20th What is the ONSM? The Oregon New Sanctuary Movement (ONSM) is an interfaith coalition of over 20 different religious leaders and congregations, called by our faith to respond actively and publicly to the suffering of our immigrant brothers and sisters residing in the United States. We are committed to lifting up the voices of our immigrant brothers and sisters, working for just and humane immigration reform, and the transformation of the social and economic systems that perpetuate the poverty in immigrants’ home countries that drives much of the migration to the US. We also seek ways to build relationships of solidarity between faith community members and immigrants – relationships that have the power to change hearts and minds and transform our communities. Job Description: In this part-time, one-year position, the ONSM Coordinator will assist the ONSM in strengthening our infrastructure and capacity for long-term organizing. The Coordinator’s primary focus will be on recruiting and developing volunteers, improving the ONSM’s communication systems, and resource development (financial and other resources). This position reports to the ONSM Coordinating Committee for strategic program planning and decision-making. Responsibilities: Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers and volunteer leadership Facilitate and coordinate support of immigrants through the ONSM network (material needs, emotional/spiritual support, legal, etc.) Identify and secure sustainable sources of financial support – primarily through participating congregations Work with Coordinating Committee to plan and facilitate general ONSM meetings. Send out meeting minutes and meeting reminders Provide support to ONSM task forces as needed Support development and distribution of educational materials, including periodic newsletters, toolkits, flyers, etc. Update and maintain ONSM database, communication systems, and website. Qualifications: Commitment to the goals of the New Sanctuary Movement Proven grassroots organizing skills with faith communities and other diverse constituents Fluency in English; advanced skills in written and spoken Spanish Knowledge of global economic policies (i.e. free trade) and domestic immigration policies Computer skills (word processing, database management, e-mail, basic graphic design, web site maintenance, etc.) Strong writing and public speaking skills Strong facilitation skills Ability to work independently and within teams Demonstrated experience with volunteer coordination is a plus Demonstrated fundraising ability is a plus Time Commitment: Average 15 hours/week – One year commitment Compensation: Salary dependent on experience ($800 - $1000/month) Closing Date: Monday, October 20th, 2008 Send Resume and Cover Letter to: ONSM Hiring Committee - [email protected] or ONSM Hiring Committee c/o AFSC 2249 E Burnside Portland, OR 97214 (e-mail applications preferred) We are a non-discrimination coalition.
