Assistant Controller for Portland Impact

JOB SUMMARY:  This is a management support position where the Assistant Controller will provide accounting and financial services and assist the Director of Finance in areas of financial administration according to generally accepted accounting principles.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing general ledger and accounts payable functions and supervision of accounts payable staff.  Assist the Finance Director with the day to day operations of the fiscal department.  Responsible for the monthly general ledger closing; Review and reconcile agency general ledger entries and accounts; Oversee the tracking and recording of agency ledgers for cash, benefits, fixed assets and accumulated depreciation; Review and reconcile all agency accounts and activity for core cost centers including bank reconciliations; Assist in annual budget process. Assist with the day to day operations of the accounting department.  This includes eventual oversight of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable for client billing as well as reviewing, approving and verifying proper authorizations for material invoices; Review and reconcile donor gifts from Development; Assist in the implementation of procedures for major financial processes; Assist with the annual audit and other audits as necessary; Other accounting duties as assigned. Assist the Finance Director in the annual agency audit and other government / contract audits.       Meets performance standards set forth by Finance Director.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would likely meet the following requirements

Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Accounting ;   Minimum of four years experience in business administration, bookkeeping, financial accounting; One year supervisory experience in accounting or administrations; Must be detailed oriented with high level of accuracy; Proven analytical skills and ability to problem solve; Proven organizational skills and ability to multitask; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles and cultures. Ability and willingness to work as a team member and support Portland Impact's mission and goals. Possess computer skills including competency in any accounting software as well as Windows, Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Ability to efficiently travel in order to perform agency related errands.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual and cultural skills. Experience with non profit accounting and GAAP standards.
