Life Skills Trainer opening

Youth Progress Association, a medium-sized private non profit, is seeking a candidate to fill a vacancy for a Life Skills Trainer in a non-residential treatment setting. Youth Progress Association works with adolescent delinquents transitioning into independence, and the Mariposa Program works with young women specifically.

The position of Life Skills Trainer requires that the employee hold a Bachelors Degree or commensurate experience in direct service with youth. Hiring for an entry-level position.

Main duties include supervision of milieu safety and activity of clients. De-escalation, Motivational Interviewing, enforcing program rules and policies, redirecting criminal thinking, and documenting services are a part of the daily routine.

This position will be working closely (one-on-one) with a female youth per contractual funding from DHS. The nature of the position may change in correlation to the youth's involvement with YPA. If and when the one-on-one nature of the position changes, the employee will be moved into a similar position at another area of service at Youth Progress, which may include youth male clients. There is not currently a set period of time for the one-on-one female youth staffing; however, we do not anticipate it to last beyond six months or so. To learn more about the other programs YPA has, please visit our public website at www.youthprogress.org. The right candidate will have an interest and experience in working with at-risk youth, especially females, but also know that the nature of the job will change after a period of time.

This is a full time position (40 hours a week). Must be able to pass a criminal background check and have a valid drivers license. Must be at least 21 years old. Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply due to the nature of this program (working solely with female youth).

Starting pay is $11.00 an hour; full medical and dental benefits provided after 3 months. Vacation and sick time begin accruing after 3 months.

Group interviews will be scheduled through email or phone.

Please email a resume and cover letter to [email protected]. Emails MUST include the words "Life Skills Trainer" in the subject line. Applications without cover letters will not be considered.

Applications will be taken until midnight on Wednesday October 8th.

No phone calls, please. Any questions regarding the position can be directed to the email listed at the top of this posting.
