Friends of Library Book Sale

Oregon’s biggest used book sale, by The Friends of the Multnomah County Library, will be Oct. 10 through 13 at 8150 N. Lombard St. in the St. Johns Business District.

Hours will be 6 to 9 pm Friday, members’ only night; 9 am to 6 pm Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm Sunday, and 9 am to 3 pm on discount Monday when everything will be 50 percent off. As always, people may buy memberships at the door on Friday or at any time during the sale.

This will be the nonprofit Friends’ 35th annual fall sale to support library programs. An estimated 100,000 donated books, CDs, DVDs, audio and video tapes, records, pamphlets and sheet music will be offered. Most books will be $1.50, and children’s items will start at 50 cents.

In response to concerns raised over recent sale years, no electronic devices, such as scanners or cell phones, to seek book information will be allowed at the sale Friday. Devices will be allowed on other days at the tables for checking items individually.

Free parking is around the building and on streets, and the site is served by TriMet bus routes 4, 17, 44 and 75. It is a block from the Safeway shopping center at Richmond Avenue.

Yearly memberships are $30 for individuals, $45 for families, and $20 for seniors 65 years of age and over.
