Annual Giving Manager Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest (Portland, Oregon)

Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships with measurable impact. Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest operates throughout metropolitan Portland and Southwest Washington. Through a clear focus on strategic priorities, the agency grew from serving 50 children in 2002 to serving 2,371 children in 2007, making it the largest mentoring program in Oregon and the largest Big Brothers Big Sisters agency on the West Coast. During the same time period, the agency has successfully grown revenues from $130,000 to $3,000,000 while launching programs for high risk children, including children of incarcerated parents, foster children, children in Title I schools, and Latino, African American and Native American children. The agency boasts a high-profile, committed board of directors, an experienced and mission-driven workforce and strong community partnerships.

The Annual Giving Manager reports to the Chief Development Officer and is responsible for developing and managing the agency’s annual giving program with a primary focus on donors who give < $10K/year.

Key areas of responsibility include direct response program and training/coaching county directors regarding: a) annual plan creation, b) Ambassador Board development/management, c) annual events (e.g., Benevon breakfast, Bowl for Kids Sake), d) small grants, and d) local businesses/government partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities:

·         Develop and manage comprehensive, direct response program (print and on-line)

·         Design and develop effective direct response packages (e.g., acquisition, renewal, special appeal)

·         Regularly test, analyze and fine-tune direct response packages

·         Work with county directors to develop and manage annual giving goals and plans

·         Train/coach county directors to develop and manage Ambassador Boards to implement plans and achieve goals

·         Establish and monitor county grants program

·         Train/coach county directors to implement effective community events (e.g., Benevon breakfast, Bowl for Kids Sake)

·         Help county directors develop and manage local business and government partnerships

Secondary Responsibilities:

·         Manage relationships with direct response vendors (e.g., list broker, printer, mail house)

·         Develop, track and analyze annual giving budget

·         Initiate and manage efforts to grow prospect list for direct response program

·         Assist with production of monthly cash flow forecast and annual revenue forecast

·         Moves management (via Raisers Edge)

·         Other projects as assigned

Knowledge and Skills: 

·         Proven track record managing direct response programs

·         Extensive experience with fundraising databases, preferably Raisers Edge

·         Excellent project management skills

·         Excellent writing skills; experience designing and creating effective direct response packages

·         Strong computer skills, especially Excel

·         Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

·         Ability to research, develop, and implement multiple project plans with minimal staff support

·        Strategic thinker with exceptional analytical skills, and good judgment

·        Ability to work independently and collaboratively

·        Experience with desktop publishing and design a plus

Education and Work Experience:

·        Bachelor’s degree

·        Minimum 4 years’ annual giving experience

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to travel to Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest's county offices. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and/or sit and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
