Idealist Fair, October 15th, 2008

Idealist.org-Action Without Borders, is hosting an annual series of Nonprofit Career Fairs which are free for individuals to attend. This year the Idealist.org Nonprofit Career Fair will take place in Portland, on October 15th.

Since they began six years ago, the Idealist.org Nonprofit Career Fairs have drawn nearly 60,000 job seekers and 4,700 organizations to more than 200 fairs in 30 cities.

In 2005, Idealist.org opened an office in downtown Portland dedicated to supporting nonprofit and public service professionals in all stages of their careers. The organization also has offices in New York City, Washington DC, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has staff members working from several other international cities.

The career fair provides a forum for job seekers, organizations, and career service professionals to meet face to face. Job seekers can also attend workshops on nonprofit careers and distribute resumes. “I made a number of connections, learned about some new organizations … and found the job fair overall much more useful than a regular job fair that is mainly focused on the private sector,” said one job seeker who attended the 2007 Idealist Nonprofit Career Fair in Washington, DC.

The Portland Idealist Nonprofit Career Fair is hosted by the Portland State University Career Center. The event is cosponsored by The Institute for Nonprofit Management at Portland State University, KBOO Community Radio and CNRG, and is sponsored by Commongood Careers and NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

This event is free and open to the public! For a list of attending programs, directions to the event venue, and to pre-register, please visit www.idealist.org/fairs.

The Idealist.org Nonprofit Career Fairs are organized by Action Without Borders, a nonprofit with the mission to connect people, organizations and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives.
