Snowsports Outreach Society Announces its 2008-09 Winter Programs

Attention: Youth Agencies and Schools SOS Learn To Ride Program 2008-2009

Greetings from SOS! In anticipation of winter, we are preparing for our 2008-2009 youth programs. SOS is currently accepting applications for youth agency/school participation in our programs. Feel free to continue reading about our programs below, and contact me if you are interested in having your youth agency/school participate. Sorry, at this time we cannot accept individual participants, only groups. Thank you!

We are a non-profit youth agency that works with youth with risk factors in their lives through adventure sports, adult mentoring, and community outreach projects. We offer two basic programs throughout the winter, the University program and the Learn to Ride Programs.

Learn to Ride is a five day introductory program in which students who have never snowboarded before have an opportunity to come up to a mountain resort and learn how to slide on snow. Ssnowboarding is an adventure sport with a fast learning curve. Most students are very confident sliding on snow by the end of day five. We work to build self confidence and to provide a safe space to foster adult relationships and relationships with peers. We offer a structured, positive, and nurturing environment which is ideal for growth. Our main focus is our core values. Each day, students participate in learning a new core value. The core values are: Courage, Discipline, Integrity, Wisdom, and Compassion.

Learn to Ride graduates maybe eligible to return for the four year SOS University Program. SOS University offers youth snowsports opportunities along with adult mentorship, structured community outreach projects and life skills workshops.

There is a fee-for-service for participating in the program. SOS prefers to register groups by ½ groups (consisting of 12-13 students and 1-2 counselors), or a full group (25 students and 2-4 counselors). A ½ group of 13 costs $845 and a full group of 25 students costs $1625. We can bemoderately flexible on group sizes, depending on the mountain resort and specific sessions available. The fee for service includes lift tickets, rental equipment, professional instruction, and any clothing a student or counselor may need. It is extremely important that each child that participates in the Learn to Ride/ Learn to Ski program has health insurance.

There are requirements the youth agencies must follow and agree to, such as being on time to the mountain, providing transportation, lunches, and supervision.

If you decide this is something your youth agency or school would like to participate in (and it is WELL worth it!) the next steps are:

1. Register your youth agency or school online at www.sosoutreach.org/clienttracking

by completing the "New Agency Form"

2. Fill out the enclosed form (Take a look at the TENTATIVE dates of the program and indicate your first and second choice. We will do our best to accommodate everyone, however we try to pair up compatible agencies should agencies register for ½ group only.

3. Send the deposit for ½ the fee for service, which is NON-REFUNDABLE, along with the enclosed form to reserve your spot in the Learn to Ride program.

Last year we filled up early with groups and ended up with a waiting list, so please, if you are interested, get everything squared away with management, finances, and transportation and reserve your spot. We are looking forward to working with your youth agency or school this coming season. It is truly an unforgettable experience that both you and your students will value for a long time to come.

Spread the Love,
