POSITION DESCRIPTION

CEP MISSION The Community Energy Project empowers people in the Portland Metro area to maintain healthier, more livable homes, control their utility costs, and conserve natural resources.

TITLE Seasonal Weatherization/Home Repair Assistant

SUPERVISOR  Matt DeAmico, Program Manager of In-Home Services

COMPENSATION $11/hour, 32-40 hr/week (workload dependent), 6 month duration

POSITION SUMMARY

Are you looking for a job in the nonprofit sector and enjoy working with diverse groups of people? Are you handy with little repairs around your home? If so, you may enjoy working for the Community Energy Project. Work with highly motivated, creative staff in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Connect with hundreds of community partner organizations and meet thousands of people in Portland. We need someone who can assist staff and volunteers with installation of simple energy saving materials in the homes of low income senior citizens and people with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist staff and volunteers with weatherization projects in the Portland metro area 2. Assist staff and volunteers with minor home repair projects as needed 3. Have an eye for quality work and a dedication to making installations effective and aesthetically pleasing 4. Complete paperwork, including intake forms, work orders, inventory control sheets, and scheduling notes 5. Maintain an organized work environment on job sites and in the warehouse 6. Be able to travel with personal transportation (mileage is reimbursed) 7. Assist with scheduling appointments for clients 8. Assist with program follow-up activities 9. Assist with providing community information and referral services to interested community members via email or phone, walk-in inquiries, and at community events

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse individuals and groups of people 2. Ability (or willingness to learn) how to provide services in a culturally competent manner 3. Experience with minor repairs or general construction skills 4. Dedication to working collaboratively as part of a team 5. Track record of being highly organized, dependable, and punctual 6. Ability to lift 35lbs and able to load and unload weatherization materials from the warehouse to vehicle at the beginning and end of appointments 7. Ability to work on a ladder with hand tools 8. Ability to perform physical labor for the majority of a work week 9. Must have the availability to work a flexible schedule, including some Saturdays. 10. Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and an automobile 11. Strong interest in environmental and social issues and community development 12. Bilingual in Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese or other language spoken in the Portland Metro area helpful
