Voz Celebrates First Thursday with Day of the Dead Celebration!

Day of the Dead Art Celebration Thursday November 6th, 2008 6:00pm – 9:00pm Portland Day Labor Hire Site – 240 NE MLK Jr. Blvd

As a part of First Thursday, the Portland Day Labor Hire Site will open our doors for an evening of art, music, and food. Come check out the art by Portland's Day Laborer community, hear some mariachi music played by day laborers, and experience Day of the Dead with traditional décor and food.

What is Voz? Voz Workers' Rights Education Project is a non-profit dedicated to organizing immigrant workers in the Portland metropolitan area. The organization's special focus is Jornaleros, or Day Laborers. Voz is a worker-led organization in which members secure and promote their own rights through organizing, leadership development, and community education.

What is the Portland Day Labor Hire Site? After twelve years of organizing Portland's day labor community on street corners, VOZ opened the Portland Day Labor Hire Site on June 16th, 2008. The site provides day laborers with shelter from the cold and rain, bathrooms, and necessary protections from exploitation that day laborers often face.
