position summary:

Internship: This unpaid internship is an opportunity to gain hands on experience with children’s literature and to engage in a wide range of early childhood literacy research. The intern will work in the SMART state office with the Program Support Manager and gain practical experience in the day to day activities of a dynamic non-profit organization. This internship may count for college credit as the university or college allows.

Responsibilities:

Assist with creating, organizing and housing a data clearinghouse of early literacy prevention research and resources.

Assist with inventory, management and distribution of the office book collection including data entry and packaging book orders for schools.

Research publishers and current children’s books to increase the quality and selection of SMART’s book list.

Work with literacy committee to increase our Spanish language collection and research potential books and publishers.

Research data on Oregon schools, educational organizations and other subjects.

Other book and literacy research as needed.

Availability: Immediate need and ongoing throughout the year. The position length and time commitment is flexible. This position can be job shared with another intern or volunteer. Some research aspects of this position can be done from home if desired.

Salary / Pay Rate:Volunteer Position
Required Skills and Abilities:Interest or experience in children’s literacy and children’s books. Basic computer skills, proficiency in excel preferred. Research experience helpful but not required. Willing to receive a background check, sign confidentiality agreement and available to receive required training.
