Tutor at LÊP Charter High School!

Leadership & Entrepreneurship Public Charter High School (LÊP High) is seeking volunteer tutors for the 2008-09 school year. http://www.lephigh.org

We are looking for volunteers with a strong background in core academic subject areas (i.e. math, humanities, science, Spanish), willingness to work with a diverse group of students, and a commitment to helping all students achieve excellence.

This is a remarkable opportunity to contribute to an urban, public charter school that engages students in interdisciplinary, project-based learning experiences while preparing them for the challenges of the 21st century.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS of LÊP HIGH:

-A diverse student body that is engaged as active partners in their education

-A cohesive and supportive community of professional educators characterized by continuous learning, experimentation and reflection

-An extended school day and academic year with a daily tutorial for intensive academic support

VOLUNTEER TUTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Assist students with coursework from a variety of classes.

-Establish a respectful and supportive demeanor during tutoring sessions.

-Work with individual students that have requested or been identified by our staff in need of additional academic support.

VOLUNTEER TUTOR REQUIREMENTS:

-A willingness to work with a diverse student body.

-The ability to assist students with a variety of class work.

-Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment, take initiative, and communicate effectively with LÊP High Staff and the Community Outreach Coordinator.

-Commitment to LÊP High’s mission and the KORE vision and values.

-Tracking of hours for purposes of future grant-writing.

-All LÊP High Volunteers must successfully pass a Criminal Background check.

VOLUNTEER TUTOR TIME COMMITMENT:

1) 1-5 days per week during our Extended Learning Opportunity-- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Fridays 3:10-4:00pm. 2) Homework Club held on Wednesdays from 3:10-4:45pm. 3) Night School held Monday - Thursday from 4:30pm-8:00pm.

Additional opportunities to work with individual students or class groups are possible.
