position summary:

The University of Portland announces the opening of the position Assistant Director of the Moreau Center for Service and Leadership. The Moreau Center cultivates a climate of civic engagement by involving the campus in service and social justice education through the lens Catholic Social Teaching. We are highly collaborative and work closely with other student life and academic departments. The Assistant Director advises student leaders of service and social justice programming and alternative break trips, supports students exploring post-graduate service opportunities and helps to develop, assess and maintain community partnerships. Candidates should be prepared to assist students, faculty, staff and community partners in academic service-learning ventures as well as co-curricular programs.

This is a 12-month, 40+ hour/week position which requires travel with students over the University breaks. A Masters degree and two years of professional experience in community service, non-profit management, higher education or student leadership development are preferred. The candidate should also possess a firm knowledge of the Catholic tradition.

Salary up to $37,000 DOE (Depending on Experience).

Qualifications:At least two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: community service, non-profit management, higher education, student leadership development Bachelors degree; Masters degree preferred Strong grasp of the Catholic social tradition and knowledge of a broad range of social justice issues Desire to work directly with undergraduate students Significant experience advising student leaders Knowledge of post-graduate opportunities: regional, national and international Ability to think creatively about and work with limited resources Other skills helpful to the position: Intercultural competency, Spanish language proficiency, grant-writing ability
