Grantmakers for Education (GFE) is philanthropy's knowledge source for achieving results in education. Its mission is to improve the knowledge, networks and impact of education grantmakers to help them improve student achievement and opportunities.

Based in Portland, Oregon, the Member Services Manager will report to the Communications Director. With a dedicated staff of five, GFE’s success depends on the contributions of each team member to the organization’s mission. Thus, the successful candidate will be a self-starter with a deep commitment to GFE’s mission, high attention to detail and dedication to quality, and an open, inclusive work style.

Responsibilities include:

° Membership Services: Respond to member requests for information and help, as well as guide membership engagement initiatives.

° Membership Renewal: Manage systems to sustain and grow membership contributions on an annual basis.

° Database and Records Management: Manage and update membership and prospective member databases and files. Monitor news and correspondence to capture information about GFE members that is relevant, and update databases as needed.

° Prospective Member Cultivation: Research, identify and coordinate recruiting strategies for prospective members of GFE.

° Grants Management: Work with executive director and director of programs to create grant proposals for special projects and initiatives, and manage all grant reporting requirements for special grants and membership contributions.

° Committee Support: Provide staff support to the GFE Membership Committee to review and develop membership policies and initiatives

Salary / Pay Rate:Expected salary range: $35,000 - $45,000
Required Skills and Abilities:° Membership services/fundraising/development: The person has experience with nonprofit fundraising (GFE’s revenue comes primarily from membership contributions and grants) and thus has the skills to successfully work with GFE’s communication staff to implement a cohesive strategy to ensure a high retention rate of members and to offer and implement creative ideas for identifying and attracting new members to the organization. ° Customer service: The person understands the role of a service organization such as GFE and will be able to provide friendly, prompt and correct replies to grantmakers seeking information or help. ° Successful grant writing and reporting: The person has experience with grant proposal writing, reporting and grants management administration. ° Experience in the philanthropic sector: The person has experience working in the field of philanthropy or with grantmakers.
