position summary:

TRANSITION PROJECTS, located in Portland, Oregon, serves people’s basic needs as they transition from homelessness to housing. This position works at our busy Old Town service center serving homeless and low-income adults.

General Responsibilities Coordinate the Life Skills program for homeless adults. Facilitate classes, groups and individual support for housing and job readiness.

Specific Responsibilities 1. Conduct individual employability assessments with TPI case managed residents. 2. Work with housing case managers to include employment planning in shelter case plans. 3. Organize and conduct weekly Jobs Club for residents actively seeking employment. Organize Jobs Board and regularly update listings. 4. Assist residents with obtaining job leads, updating resumes & creating cover letters. 5. Facilitate Ready to Rent classes for residents referred by case managers. 6. Conduct criminal background checks and credit reports for Ready to Rent participants 7. Facilitate house meetings. 8. Assist with development of a facility Computer Access Center. Coordinate and operate the center. 9. Assist Volunteer Coordinator in training and scheduling volunteers to oversee Access Center as needed. 10. Maintain and update Access Center computers on a weekly basis. 11. Organize clothes closet and facilitate distribution of job & interview appropriate clothing. 12. Participate in bi-weekly case management meetings and appropriate staff meetings. 13. Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate community resources to assure services availability to clients. 14. Collect and analyze data, providing reports and statistical information. 15. Other duties as assigned.

Must be able to effectively interact with persons with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity. 9. Must be able to demonstrate team behavior and must be willing to promote a team-oriented environment. 10. Must be able to demonstrate initiative, strive to continually improve processes and relationships.

Salary / Pay Rate:$13.80 per hour ($14.18 per hour if bilingual English/Spanish)

Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications 1. (a) A Bachelor's degree with 1 year experience providing groups or education to homeless persons OR (b) 3 years experience working with homeless populations with at least one of those years providing groups or education to that population. 2. Demonstrated ability to work with special needs population. 3. Demonstrated knowledge of money management and resources. 4. Demonstrated knowledge of landlord tenant issues and housing barriers. 5. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks. 6. Demonstrated ability to create program procedures. 7. Demonstrated ability to maintain paperwork in an organized manner. 8. Ability and willingness to become certified as a Ready to Rent instructor. 9. Strong writing abilities. 10. Excellent computer skills. Demonstrated ability to use word processing, database, calendar, spreadsheet, e-mail, Internet, and graphic design programs. 11. Ability to operate office machines, including copy and facsimile machines. 12. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
