OMSI needs customer service volunteers at Da Vinci - The Genius

During our upcoming Da Vinci - The Genius exhibit, OMSI will need temporary volunteer help in customer service roles. After the exhibit is over in May, volunteers will have the option to take on a different volunteer role at OMSI.

POSITION SUMMARY: OMSI needs a number of new volunteers to assist with customer service during the exhibit Da Vinci - The Genius, from January 31 through May 3, 2009. Visitor Services volunteers welcome visitors to OMSI and provide them with friendly and helpful service as they purchase tickets and enter the Da Vinci exhibit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Take tickets as visitors enter the exhibit. • Maintain a count of visitors entering the exhibit (with a counting device). • Monitor the exit of the exhibit. • Collect audio guides as visitors exit the exhibit. • Assist visitors in understanding the layout of the museum. • Give clear directions and provide information about events happening throughout the museum. • Stay informed about membership rates and benefits and share this information with interested visitors.

TIME COMMITMENT: • This is a short-term volunteer position for the run of the exhibit, January 31 through May 3, 2009. • All volunteers must commit to at least one shift per week. • In May, volunteers will have the option of transitioning into other open OMSI volunteer positions.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Currently seeking volunteers at least 16 years of age. • Able to provide excellent customer service, • Able to speak in public and respond to customer inquiries. • Able to maintain a calm, pleasant, and cheerful demeanor in a variety of situations. • Able to listen and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and ages. • Able to remain in one position for extended periods of time. • Must present a professional appearance. • Dependable and punctual. • Self-directed and willing to take initiative. • Willing to follow OMSI rules and procedures.
