"Arts as Vision" - Springboard Social Innovation Forum - Jan. 14th

Local artists, musicians, and poets will share their bold, inclusive visions for the future at the next Springboard Social Innovation Forum. Panelists, workshops, performances, and art exhibits will demonstrate the potential of art to include diverse viewpoints, cultures, and philosophies in community building, decision making, and visioning for the future.

Springboard Social Innovation Forum, an open-to-the-community event on the second Wednesday of each month, takes place January 14th from 6-9 p.m. at Urban Grind, 2214 NE Oregon. Sponsored by Springboard Innovation, a Portland nonprofit, the monthly event brings together local citizens who are ready to take the lead on implementing sustainable solutions to improve their own community. The $5 admission includes a light supper, doors open at 5:30. Scholarships are available, please contact [email protected].

Workshop presenters include p:ear, SCRAP, My Story and DEEP. Panelists include Romeo Sosa, Director of VOZ; Melinda Pittman, Artistic Director of BroadArts Theatre; Sonali S. Balajee, Independent Consultant and Health Equity Policy Analyst; and Sally Peters, Launcher of SpeakArtLoud. Performers include Veterans for Peace Chapter 72, PHAME Academy Choir, and BroadArts Theater. A visual art exhibit will feature art from VOZ’s Latino day laborers, My Story, Leave No Plastic Behind, SUN Community School Students and Alec Neal.

Forum attendees will also have a chance to participate in discussions led by local experts or just network informally. That’s all in keeping with the goal of the Springboard Social Innovation Forum: unleashing the potential of “ordinary” citizens to address local challenges with lasting solutions.
