Make 2009 a better year for a local youth! - Mentors Needed!

Start the New Year off right by making a difference in a Portland youth’s life. Have you ever considered becoming a mentor? Curious to learn how you can give back to your community and have fun? Join Mentor Portland at Green Dragon Bistro & Brewpub on Thursday, January 15th anytime between 6:30-8:30 pm to learn more about the most exciting and unique mentoring opportunity in Portland - all while enjoying the tasty food and great atmosphere of Green Dragon Bistro & Brewpub.

Mentor Portland establishes and supports meaningful mentor relationships between safe and caring adults over the age of 21 and Portland youth facing life’s biggest challenges. Our youth face significant disruptions or instability in their family life; whether they are in foster care or have an incarcerated parent. With a supportive adult relationship, youth make smarter choices and choose better futures.

The youth in our community have different stories and different struggles, but need is the same: someone they can trust, someone who's consistent, someone they can look up to, and a sense of safe community. A mentor's year-long presence has a direct and positive impact on youth, whether that is higher school attendance; improved social skills; healthier family relationships or just the ability to trust. Youth aren’t the only ones whose lives can change from this friendship, mentoring can change two lives - theirs and yours.

Now is a great time to learn more about Mentor Portland.  We will be matching a new group of mentors next month!  Come learn how you can make 2009 a better year for a local youth! And feel free to bring a friend.
