ABBRIEVIATED JOB DESCRIPTION

Tryon Creek State Natural Area offers 672 acres of beautiful, forested canyon and uplands only 15 minutes from downtown Portland. Nature Day Camp provides children with the freedom to explore the natural world on rambling hikes through the woods, excursions along the creek, science experiments and nature-based arts and crafts in our classroom, and games, songs, stories and plays in our outdoor shelter. The Overnight Camp Lead Instructor will:

• Provide campers from 5th-8th grade with an educational, recreational, wholesome and safe experience based on sound ecological practices, leading all camp activities including hikes, field trips, science activities, crafts, games, and 1-2 overnights a week. • Work with Day Camp Director to develop and review curricula for 4 separate camp themes. • Supervise, mentor and evaluate Nature Day Camp Intern. • Responsible for general cleanliness and conditions of camp facilities. • Assist in documentation and evaluation of camp programs. • Maintain professional and informative relationship with parents. • Camp staff hours are 8 am – 4 pm.

Qualified applicants will be skilled environmental educators with prior experience in outdoor, experiential teaching, high school student mentoring, and NW OR ecology.
