Volunteer for the Interstate Farmers' Market

Volunteer orientation meetings begin in less than 2 weeks to help the Interstate Farmers' Market with new volunteers for this coming year.

Here are my goals for volunteers in 2009: - 10 person team for set-up - 10 person crew to help at the information booth - 5-8 people to become our vendor relations committee - 10-15 person group for publicity - 10 people to breakdown the market each week

1) Set-up (12:00 noon - 3:00 pm) Set up canopies, tables, signs and direct vendors to designated parking area. Assist musicians or other community members as needed.Requires some lifting. Do not wear open-toed shoes.

2) Information Booth (3:00 - 5:00 pm and/or 5:00 - 7:00 pm) Answer questions about the market, sign-up volunteers and assist with demonstrations. Greet people as they enter and exit the market, assist with crowd counts and direction pedestrian traffic. Processes EBT/Debit/Oregon Trial transactions and distributes and monitors wooden tokens.

3) Breakdown (6:30 - 8:00 pm) Take down canopies, tables, signs and other equipment. Collect and empty trash and recycle containers. Requires some lifting. Do not wear open-toed shoes.

4) Volunteer Coordinator (2-3 hours per week) Recruit, retain and celebrate volunteers! Includes market-day presence, internet and phone calls to potential volunteers to help at the market.

5) Vendor Relations (2-3 hours per week) Pre-market - help recruit and choose the vendors for the 2009 season. Communicate with vendors and farmers each week to compile a list of available foods, help with set-up on market day and recruit new local vendors. (Might also include volunteer coordination for farmers)

6) Publicity (2-5 hours per week) - Posters, fliers, internet postings, press releases, media connections. Help get the word out to bring the people in! --------------------------------------------------- Thank you for contributing to the market!
