Community Volunteer Coordinator

Hollywood Farmers' Market Now accepting applications for the position of Community Volunteer Coordinator (approximately 25 hours per week during market season)

The Community Volunteer Coordinator (CVC) coordinates the Hollywood Farmers’ Market Volunteer Program and works with the Board of Directors and other market staff to manage volunteers and community groups on a weekly basis. The CVC is also responsible for community outreach, marketing-related tasks, customer relations (with Board support), and site equipment purchases. The CVC shares office space with the Market Manager (MM), attends staff meetings, and reports to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis.

Primary duties include: • Organizing and managing volunteer activities on weekly market days and for special events. • Recruiting and communicating with volunteers. • Maintaining databases related to volunteer activities. • Playing a key role in marketing activities, including weekly responsibilities such as the e-newsletter as well as developing promotional materials, scheduling community groups to participate at the market, and assisting with special events planning and coordination. • Ordering and purchasing supplies and materials. • Transporting market van before and after market day; arranging for van’s maintenance and upkeep. • Planning and coordinating the market’s annual volunteer recognition event. • Creating a Year-End Report and presenting it at the December Board meeting. • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

Hours This is a part-time position and requires approximately 25 hours per week during the market season (.39 FTE for the year). The CVC must be able to work Saturdays from the end of April until Thanksgiving.

Salary Starting salary is $14/hour.

Experience Needed Qualified candidates will have: • Experience with recruiting, training, managing, and recognizing volunteers. • Strong organizational and communication skills. • Familiarity with MS Office and, in particular, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint computer programs. Experience with Volgistics a plus. • Skills in conflict resolution. • Valid driver’s license.

Other desired attributes include the ability to work with a wide variety of people; the ability to work alone, one-on-one, and with the crowd; flexibility and a problem-solving orientation; strong interest in farmers’ markets and familiarity with Northeast Portland neighborhoods; public speaking skills; ability to perform high levels of physical activity; graphic design skills a plus.
