ASE Student Support Coordinator – PT, Temporary position

10 hours per week (may increase to 16 hours/week) February 1, 2009-July 31, 2009 Pay: $14-$16/hr

Overview Saturday Academy’s Apprenticeships in Science & Engineering (ASE) Program places high school students in intensive 8-week summer internships in scientific, engineering, and technology companies, agencies and university research labs. Some students require assistance in applying to and successfully completing the program. The ASE Student Support Coordinator will serve as a resource for such students by assisting them in applying to the program, including helping them write the required essays, preparing for interviews and, if selected, successfully completing the internship.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities

Application Assistance • Identify and contact applicants who may need assistance • Guide applicants through the application process • Coordinate logistics for essay-writing and interview-skills workshops • Review individual student essays, and assist as appropriate

Apprentice support • Assist apprentices in adjusting to the workplace culture as needed • Assist with all event coordination aspects of summer conferences • Assist with general program administration, as needed • Work directly with student families as appropriate

Salary / Pay Rate:$14-$16 per hour
Qualifications:Experience and Educational Requirements • College degree required • Experience working with culturally and economically diverse groups essential • Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision essential • Ability to provide one-on-one writing assistance to students essential • Experience working with high school students preferred • Experience teaching, mentoring, or coaching students preferred • Bilingual in English and Spanish desirable but not essential
