Cultural Perspectives on Counseling People in Invalidating Environments with Andre Pruitt Oct 16,17 at PSU

This workshop will explore working with diverse populations living in invalidating environments.  Participants will learn how to view and understand behavior through a cultural perspective in the context of an oppressive society. They will then begin to develop an understanding of a systematic approach to oppression and how it influences therapy.  Strategies to build a platform for change can then be created to move the client from surviving to thriving. Therapeutic strategies presented will include normalizing behavior and skill development to create change and give power back to the client.
