Sunday June 15 - Sunday Afternoon Gathering ~ Silent Practices

4:30-6:00pm, Yoga Shala SE, 3249 SE Division

Suggested donation: $5+, but all are welcome

Living Earth holds space for silent sitting and walking meditations and quiet reflection on the third Sunday afternoon of each month. Quiet contemplative practices from all faith traditions are welcome in this gentle afternoon circle. (Note that Yoga Shala is a shoe-less facility).

The Madeleine Parish (3123 NE 24th Ave., Portland)

5K Run/Walk and Kids' Fun Run! Volunteers needed to guide runners and walkers along the course. Following the races, volunteers and participants will enjoy a post-event party in the parish hall with free pizza, beer and root beer!

The entry fee is $40 until the day of the race, but it's FREE for you if you raise over $100 in pledges!

Funds raised at this event directly help low-income families receive legal representation.

Tune into OMSI’s podcast, Sound Science, providing illuminating answers to wonder-filled questions. This week's questions are:

A new edition of Sound Science is posted every Friday. The podcast is like a radio show, with host Anders Liljeholm asking OMSI educators to respond to questions from people from around the world. The interviews are approximately 5-10 minutes in length.

June 15th kicks off the 2008 LIFM season! TEN new vendors will join us this season, along with weekly live music, cooking and gardening demonstrations and kids activities. You'll find the market every Sunday through October 12th from 9am to 2pm at SE 92nd and Foster. The City Repair Project organization of Portland, Oregon is bringing together a new eco-action incubator in the building which formerly housed the Portland Women’s Temple. There are two extremely beautiful 200 to 250 square foot spaces available. Each space is unique, with gorgeous windows, a balcony, and garden views.

We want to share this unique and wonderful place with people who are creative and dedicated to promoting healthy and sustainable communities, including: Non-profit community organizations, creative activists, health practitioners, professional designers, artists, architects, and many other kinds of people who would thrive in this environment! ASMART (Start Making A Reader Today) Volunteer Metro Site Coordinator

Support children’s literacy in your community and inspire a love of books and reading. SMART Site Coordinators are needed in public elementary schools in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties September 2009 through May 2010 for a time commitment of 1-8 hours per week. Coordinators will receive in-depth training to train/support volunteer readers, work with school staff to schedule students and volunteers and provide program oversight during reading sessions. Lead a team of committed volunteers and make a significant contribution to your local school.

We will continue interviewing throughout the program year until all positions are filled.
