Mortgage Default Intake Orientation

The Community Housing Resource Center will be holding a free Mortgage Default Orientation on Tuesday, September 14th, from 5-6PM at the Center. This workshop is the required first step in learning how to work with your lender and how the Center can assist you in resolving your mortgage issue. You do not need to be in default to get help. No reservations are required. For information, contact 360-690-4496 X105. The Community Housing Resource Center is a HUD certified, non-profit counseling/education center.

Economic Human Rights Gathering in Portland

Building Momentum: a gathering of organizers for economic human rights in Portland

 

Join Social Welfare Action Alliance on Saturday, September 18th from 10am to 2pm at the School of Social Work at Portland State University, 1800 SW 6th Avenue, Suite 600, for a series of workshops and presentations on local economic human rights organizing efforts. The purpose of this event is to support and build local efforts promoting economic human rights. Economic human rights, as named in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as Articles 23, 25, and 26, state all people's right to such provisions as housing, health care, a living wage job, and education.

position summary:

Volunteers mentor youth transitioning from the GED program at SE Works into post-secondary education. They offer support, encouragement, and motivation to youth in their first few semesters of college. Mentors can work one-to-one, with groups, or provide specialized support surrounding life skills with the youth. We ask that volunteers are available for a period of 9 months to foster a lasting relationship with the youth. Mentoring times vary and depend on volunteer and participant availability. Expect to meet with youth once a week (additional phone or email contact may be needed) and attend occasional group activities.

Full Time Database Assistant at SMART (Start Making a Reader Today)

Position Summary: This position provides support to SMART’s Portland office as well as to field offices around the state of Oregon. Key responsibilities are gift entry and acknowledgment using the Raiser's Edge software. Additional tasks may include generating monthly reports,creating policies and procedures, and acting as backup for some regular duties of the Program Systems Specialist.

Volunteering

Raise Funds & Friends

REACH Community Development's annual fundraising event, The Donor Luncheon, will be held on Monday, October 4th at the Governor Hotel. We will need ~15 volunteers to help the event run smoothly. Volunteers are also able to enjoy a presentation about this year within REACH.

 

The following positions are still open:

 

Set-up and decoration: 9:00am-11am

Registration: 10:30am-12:15pm

Greeters: 11am-1:15pm

Clean-up: 1:15-2:15pm

 

If you sign up for a morning shift, it is helpful if you stay until 2:15pm to help clean up, however this is optional.

Open World Volunteer/Intern for the World Affairs Council

The World Affairs Council, a nonprofit organization, is seeking a part time intern to support the International Visitor Program (IVP) team to work on an upcoming Open World program. Open World is a congressionally sponsored training and cultural exchange program. The goal of the program is to enhance understanding and capabilities for cooperation between the United States and the countries of Eurasia and the Baltic States by developing a network of leaders in the region who have gained significant, firsthand exposure to America's democratic, accountable government and its free-market system. The World Affairs Council of Oregon is hosting a group of 5 Moldovan judges and their Moldovan facilitator in conjunction with an Oregon Supreme Court host judge from October 23-30, 2010.

Pangaea Project needs volunteers~ one night only!

The Pangaea Project is gearing up for our main annual event, *Passport to Change: The 5th Annual Pangaea Project Benefit & Student Celebration, taking place on Thursday, September 30th from 5:30-9pm. The Pangaea Project empowers low-income, high-risk youth to become globally aware leaders, and this event marks the culmination of their program year.

 

We need lots of assistance that evening with all different facets of the event, from day-of set-up, to registering and checking people out, to working the auction tables, to running AV/sound, etc.
