The Housing Authority of Portland is recruiting for a Housing and Community Specialist (HCS) for the Rent Assistance department.

The past several years have been an exciting period of change and transition in the Rent Assistance department. The HCSs are organized in teams that are responsible for different aspects of the departments. The HCS Case Manager Team is responsible for a case load of approximately 475 individuals and families. The HCS Leasing Team is responsible determining eligibility and utilization of the Section 8 vouchers. Both teams are responsible for a variety of administrative services in support of participants and landlords including determining program eligibility, coordinating housing inspections and initiating the termination process for program violations. HCSs must be able to interpret and explain complex rules, regulations, policies and procedure in an understandable and calm manner to applicants and participants. Sufficient computer and keyboarding skills are needed to perform this position, including Microsoft Office programs. This position receives direct supervision from the Rent Assistance Program Manager.

Salary / Pay Rate:$33,155 to $47,579 annually and excellent benefits
Qualifications:The successful applicant for this position will have at least two years of increasingly responsible experience working with elderly, disabled and disadvantaged families in the social services or governmental agency as well as strong administrative skills. The applicant must be extremely detailed oriented and able to work in a fast paced environment and understands that the majority of responsibilities are high priority.
