Director, Market Planning and Operations

POSITION SUMMARY: This position directs and oversees NEEA’s policies, objectives, and initiatives for the market operations business unit. It is composed of two primary functions: l) initiative program planning and market operations for the Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Codes & Standards sectors, and 2) contributory leadership to the NEEA management team to ensure organizational success. This position oversees the development and delivery of market transformation initiatives in conjunction with other NEEA business units and stakeholders to ensure shared goals and distinct roles and responsibilities are understood and related goals and objectives are achieved.

This person directs all business activities in the Sectors including day-to-day operational management of NEEA’s market operations.

This Director relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. He/she is a critical member of the NEEA leadership team and is responsible for cross-functional communication and collaboration to achieve the organization’s goals.

This position will have 4 senior-level direct, up to 20 indirect reports and multiple independent contractors. Annual budgetary responsibility is approximately $10 – 25 million.

Effective communication with Executive Director, Board of Directors, key external stakeholders (including electric and gas utilities, state and federal agencies, regulators, the Bonneville Power Administration, trade allies and trade associations) is critical.

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS • Strategic thinker, anticipating obstacles and opportunities while maintaining a long-term, big picture view. • Experience forging and sustaining strategic alliances in politically charged environments. • Proven ability to provide leadership and contribute to the growth of a company. • Advanced skills/experience with change management or continuous improvement. • Superb communication, facilitation, influence management skills, with the ability to excel working in a cross-functional/matrix team environment as well as with Board and Executive level partners. • Management experience in staff development and team building. Leader who can listen, coach, and provide feedback to our talented staff. • Solid analytical and financial skills; previous P/L responsibility preferred. • Knowledge of utility business and operations and energy efficiency. • Ability to apply standards and expectations consistently across business units and with subordinates • Proven ability to build and maintain cohesive group commitment among diverse work groups.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE • 10+ years of progressive experience in managing large scale, complex activities and budgets • 5+ years managing multiple business units in service delivery is required • 5+ years relevant market knowledge, marketing is required • 5+ years experience in energy or energy efficiency field a plus • 5+ years direct personnel management required • P/L responsibility for multiple divisions preferred • Entrepreneurial drive and strong interest in energy efficiency and sustainability. • MBA or Master’s degree in Management, Business, Engineering or related field preferred
