position summary:

Health Care for All-Oregon is seeking an organizer to coordinate volunteers and general membership during the 2009 state and federal legislative sessions. The organizer will work with HCAO to educate Oregonians on health care reforms and help them communicate their demands to legislators to create comprehensive policy changes.

Responsibilities: 1) Support and coordinate our on-going community programs to educate Oregonians as decisions are made throughout this session. This includes updating our member database, making personal contact with members to increase participation, and regular communication with ally groups to coordinate events. 2) Increase use of our web site and other low cost methods of publicizing advocacy events. 3) Coordinate statewide transportation to Salem to increase participation in the April 8 Health Care Advocacy Day. 4) Until the conclusion of 2009 sessions, maintain these communication activities to empower as many Oregonians as possible to communicate their input on legislative health policy decisions.

Salary / Pay Rate:$15-20 per hour, depending on experience
Required Skills and Abilities:Experience and Abilities Needed: • Ability to facilitate trainings and events • Ability to both work as part of a team and independently • Ability to work with diverse organizations • Capacity to explain complex information and issues simply • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Excellent personal organization and time management skills. • Commitment to social and economic justice work. • Proficient at word processing, email, database and web basics. • Past volunteer or paid organizing experience
Qualifications:The position requires use or access to an automobile and occasional irregular hours of work, including evenings and occasional weekends, as needed. The organizer should live in Portland and will report to the HCAO board chair. Salary: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour depending on experience, with no benefits, on an independent contractor basis. The position is intended to be halftime for five months but hours and duration are negotiable with the right candidate.
