POSITION SUMMARY The SJFM Market Manager reports to the Board of Directors. The manager is responsible for on-site management during the market season and numerous preseason and postseason tasks. This is a part-time temporary position, working up to 25 hours per week.

Required Skills and Abilities:SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS Market Operations -Prepare market site: put barricades in place; check no parking signs; arrange for illegally parked vehicles to be towed; remove any trash or litter from site etc. -Coordinate set up and take down of market canopies, tables, signs, traffic control and other market day items. -Allocate market space for optimum usage and communicate space assignments to vendor. Resolve any disputes over market space which may arise. -Assist farmers and vendors on market day to post signs and prepare the market site, making it attractive and inviting for customers. -Enforce market rules, food safety guidelines and other pertinent laws and regulations. -Handle emergencies, complaints, and customer requests. -Ensure that all facilities, equipment and utilities are in working order. -Each hour of the market operation, do a reasonable count of market customers and record in comprehensive log. -At end of market operations, remove barricades from street; collect no-parking signs; remove any trash and litter; and take care of other tasks necessary to return the market site to its normal operations. Market Promotion -For each week of the market season, work with the Marketing Committee to create, organize and implement special events and programs to attract customers. -Conduct market and customer surveys and other “informal research” to assess opportunities and challenges for the market. Market Management -Work with the Board of Directors to establish an annual budget and monitor budget compliance. -Maintain updated records including vendor payments. -Prepare vendor applications, updated market rules for distribution. -Collect vendor fees. -Forecast market’s space and recruit new vendors as needed. -Address any customer and vendor complaints/issues during market operation. -Submit weekly report to Board of Directors about market operations: customer counts, complaints, suggestions, etc. -Participate in end-of-season market evaluation and goal setting for the next season. -Provide other management services necessary and appropriate to assure efficient market operation.
Qualifications:EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE -Highly organized and efficient. -Experience with project management, program coordination, event planning or community building. -Knowledge of and interest in agriculture and food system issues. -Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing. -Excellent people skills: friendly, outgoing, tactful, able to listen. Diplomatic conflict resolution skills. -Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and email contact software such as Constant Contact. -Degree in Management, Business, or related field preferred.
