Native American Youth and Family Center fundraiser-Nov. 14th

The Native American Youth and Family Center is holding its fifth annual dinner and auction fundraiser event on Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Portland Art Museum Kridel Grand Ballroom, 1119 SW Park Avenue. The event will include a one of a kind traditional Northwest Coastal dinner and the welcome opportunity to bid on valuable Native art work from all over the nation, including fine antique baskets, carvings from master artists, original paintings, prints and hand created jewelry in the silent and live auctions. At the event you can listen to internationally renowned vocal artist Meghan Meisters and have an entirely wonderful time.

Practice and Learn Speaking Skills

If you’re involved in a non-profit, chances are you might have opportunities to speak publicly. The best way to learn how to speak is to practice. The best place to practice and receive feedback is at a Toastmasters International club!

This Saturday, November 8th, Columbia Center Toastmasters Club will feature inspirational speaker Cleon Cox III, who will answer the question, “How can Toastmasters benefit YOU?”

As the community helps us grow each day, TrackersNW seeks to give back through blend of learning, sharing and celebration. We have parties and open houses for all ages, along with free or donation based classes for adults and youth.

Our community events are designed to support the three working agreements of TrackersNW:-Care for the land and earth we live on -A real living for you and your family -Family and team support that is healthy and functionalWe have three community events during November. Multnomah Bar Foundation Announces 2009 Grant Cycle

The Multnomah Bar Foundation (MBF) awards grants to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations for projects that are aligned with its mission: To increase the public’s understanding of the legal system; to promote civic education, public participation and respect for the law; and to improve the quality and administration of the legal system.

Letters of inquiry for the 2009 grant cycle are now being accepted and must be received by January 14, 2009. The MBF’s guidelines and letter of inquiry instructions can be found at www.mbabar.org/foundation.htm.

Mediation Training & Volunteer Opportunity - East Metro Mediation

Volunteer to provide mediation services to residents of East Multnomah County. Volunteers must attend a 40-hour basic mediation training that builds communication, listening and conflict resolution skills. Training dates for the five-week session are:

• Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. (February 25 through March 25), and • Friday, February 27, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and • Saturday, March 7, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and • Friday, March 13, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and • Saturday, March 21, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There is a $50 training fee for those willing to volunteer with two full scholarships available. The training is also open to others at a fee of $550.

Snowboard and Volunteer with Youth!

SOS Outreach is a non-profit organization, with programs across the country. We aim to build character and self-esteem in youth through snowsports and the SOS curriculum.

Learn to Ride is SOS's fundamental youth program. It's a resilience-based outdoor mountain adventure experience designed for youth with risk factors in their lives. Each participant is provided with five days of professional snowboard instruction, rental equipment, lift tickets and clothing. Utilizing the fast learning curve and "cool factors" of snowboarding, students are able to overcome fears, reach new goals and discover new possibilities.
