Sixteen Native American vendors sell jewelry made of beads, dentalia, abalone, natural and semi precious stones, shells, turquoise, and silver.  Other items include calendars, photos, cards and stationery, dream catchers, rawhide drums, cradle boards, music, traditional leather dolls, baskets, flutes, and organic remedies, skin care and gifts.  Artists from the Siletz, Warm Springs, Osage/Assiniboine, Miwok/Monoluke Paiute, Burns Paiute, Grand Ronde, Tlingit/Haida, Cherokee, Klamath, Sioux, and Chippewa nations

The November movie for the Movies and Meaning Group will be FUEL, directed by Josh Tickell. It is a documentary that addresses our national consumption of oil and the politics that accompany it. Featured in the movie are such names as Larry Hagman, Willie Nelson, Woody Harrelson, and Sheryl Crow.

The Housing Developer performs professional work in the development of housing projects to further the Northwest Housing Alternatives’ (NHA) mission to provide affordable housing to those with low incomes including families, seniors, people with disabilities and people experiencing homelessness. The Housing Developer takes the lead role in managing the development process—e.g. identifying sites, evaluating project feasibility, securing financing, supervising construction, and transitioning new construction / rehab projects to NHA’s Asset Management Department. These tasks require a personality wiling to assume a leadership role and comfortable giving direction to a large and varied team of partners. The Housing Developer reports to the Housing Director.

Portland YouthBuilders (PYB) is a small alternative high school and job training program dedicated to serving young adults, ages 17-24, who want to transform their lives. PYB's focus is on assisting our students to complete high school with a GED or Diploma, obtain job readiness skills, become critical thinkers and community leaders, develop a viable career pathway, and take the first steps to achieving their goals beyond this program. Further, PYB aims to support students through the completion of their post-secondary education and training goals.

Bilingual Customer Services Representative

De Paul Treatment Centers serves the greater Portland community by providing drug and alcohol addiction treatment services. We are currently seeking a bilingual Customer Services Representative to manage incoming phone calls for the agency. This position will display our commitment to exemplary customer service with a caring, warm and helpful attitude. Responsibilities include greeting the public on the phone, directing phone calls to appropriate staff, answering questions about our services and scheduling appointments. Additionally, the CSR will comfort callers and reassure them that help is available. Position requires outstanding customer service phone skills, strong problem-solving skills and an ability to manage multiple-line phone systems.

Free Home Energy Test

Earth Advantage is looking for homeowners who would like to participate in the Energy Performance Score (EPS) pilot program and receive free energy performance testing on their home. The pilot program will be ending December 31st, 2008. Following the in-home testing you will receive an interim written report on the performance of your home in terms of air leakage, air duct performance, etc along with a prioritized list of suggested measures. After the pilot is completed, you will receive a full EPS report and score based on the results at the time of testing. The findings of this pilot will help to create a program for energy testing existing homes throughout the region.

Visual Art, Music, Film, Writing

 

Perceptions, a journal of the arts published by Mt. Hood Community College, is now open for submissions. The journal includes the work of established writers/artists as well as work from new talent. Our only requirement is quality.

 

We accept work in six genres: poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, music, visual art/photography (color and b&w), and film.

 

All contributors whose work is accepted for publication will receive a contributor copy, and the top entry in each genre (as judged by a body of student editors) will receive $100. There is no entry fee.

Ready to Rent Instructor Training...Register Today!

Winter is coming, so don't let your clients be left out in the cold...teach them to overcome typical rental screening barriers with Ready To Rent! The next Certified Instructor Training will be held December 16-18.

The Ready to Rent curriculum provides housing readiness skills to people who have had past rental difficulties, have participants establish an action plan for becoming a successful renter and, upon completion, receive a Ready to Rent Certificate which is recognized by many housing providers and landlords as a compensating factor to some negative rental history.

Springdale Job Corps, home to over 200 students ages 16-24, needs help in continuing to assist and empower its young adults.

We have many students come to us that struggle with reading, writing and general school work. We are in serious need of community partners and volunteers that can spend anywhere from 1 hour to several hours a week tutoring our students! You don't have to be a former teacher; just someone who likes to give back. Tutoring is done between the hours of 8 am to 4 pm and in a classroom environment.
