Call to Artists - Redesign Currency

RSVP to Katherine --- [email protected]

Springboard Social Innovation Forum requests art submissions to complement this month's forum themed "Financing the Good." We are seeking artistic expressions that represent a new way of thinking about currency--what kind of currency might we use if it promoted new kinds of exchange? What would it look like? What would it be made of? The Forum will explore innovative and proven ways to fund traditionally underfunded organizations/start ups whose goal is to benefit the common good---community building, social justice, environmental protection, etc. The art exhibit should strengthen and expand these ideas.

Learn About Making Your Home Less Toxic

We have all learned about the hazards of lead and mold, but every day we are exposed to hundreds of chemicals in our personal care products, cleaners, foods and more. It is crucial that the public is informed on possible exposure to chemicals like Bisphenol-A, Phthalates, Mercury, and Lead. For this reason the Oregon Center for Environmental Health has developed our "EcoSafe Home" class. Come join us and learn about why parents and scientists are alarmed by ingredients in everyday products. We will conduct a room by room audit of your home to address alternatives to toxic products. There will also be a question and answer discussion to guide solutions.

Request for Propsals for MLKjr Day volunteer event

On behalf of the Northwest Service Academy’s (NWSA) Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee, we would like to invite you to complete our Request for Proposal. During MLK Jr. Day (Monday, January 19, 2009) we will have approximately 70 volunteers that will be spread around 4-7 service sites for about three hours.

In the past, we have primarily performed environmental work, but this year we would like to use this opportunity to engage in other important aspects of community service. We are soliciting proposals that consider the values of Dr. King (homelessness, poverty, social justice, health, education, human rights, community enhancement) and accordingly create service opportunities for NWSA and community members.

Tis' the season for Mentor Portland!

The holiday season is officially here!  This is the time of year to be thankful for all that you have and give back to those in your community who may not be as fortunate. Mentor Portland can help you do just that!

The youth in our community have different stories and different struggles, but need is the same: someone they can trust, someone who's consistent, someone they can look up to, and a sense of safe community. A mentor's year-long presence has a direct and positive impact on youth, whether that is higher school attendance; improved social skills; healthier family relationships or the just ability to trust. Youth aren’t the only ones whose lives can change from this friendship; mentoring can change two lives - theirs and yours.
