7th Annual Epiphany Choir Fest

7th Annual Epiphany Choir Fest

Gethsemane Lutheran Church will host an Epiphany Concert to benefit Human Solutions' Daybreak Shelter Network on Sunday, January 11th at 3:00 p.m. Gethsemane Lutheran Church is located at 11560 SE Market Street in Portland. The Concert will feature anthems and carols of the season sung by choirs from Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Resurrection Lutheran Church, Parkrose United Church of Christ, Parkrose United Methodist Church, Ascension Catholic Church, and St. Timothy Lutheran Church. The afternoon will conclude with a combined choir rendition of Handel's “Hallelujah Chorus.”

LGBTQ Relationship Foundations Workshop on 2/7/09

On Saturday, February 7th, 2009, Samaritan Counseling Centers is offering an all-day workshop for LGBTQ couples.

There are many ways we can defend our rights as LGBTQ couples. One of those ways is to come together with other LGBTQ couples to deepen our understanding of each other, talk about and define our commitment, and make preparations to sustain a life together. As each couple builds a foundation for their relationship, they express solidarity between themselves and with the community around them. They also send a message that their relationship is worthy of focus, recognition, supports, and preparation.

This all day workshop will help couples to:

Trainings

Tai Chi 2-day Instructor Training Jan 31-Feb 1 in Portland

"Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance", is an 8-form version of Tai Chi that has been researched and shown to substantially decrease the risk of falls in older adults. The program is designed to be offered 2-3 times/week in community settings on an ongoing basis, targeting adults 70 and older or younger adults at risk for falling. A 2-day instructor training is being offered Jan. 31 & Feb 1, 2009 from 9-5 both days. Portland location still to be decided. Cost for the 2-day training is $100. Participants should have some knowledge about working with older adults and experience in Tai Chi or other fitness programs such as yoga, Qigong, etc.

Book Inventory Volunteer

SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is looking for several volunteers to help with organizing children’s books! We have many boxes of donated books that need to be organized and inventoried, then packed & shipped to the SMART programs in schools around the state. We would appreciate your help in our State office in downtown Portland for whatever number of hours your schedule will allow M-F from 8:30AM – 5PM. This project is ongoing and we would love to have volunteers that would stay with us for several months if possible.

Knowledge and Skills:

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Intermediate Excel skills Ability to work independently and with a team Able to lift 25 lbs
