Urban Ecology: The Social, Economic and Environmental Benefits of Trees in Cities

On October 16, Kathleen L. Wolf, Research Social Scientist in the College of Forest Resources at the University of Washington, will discuss the environmental, social and economic benefits of green spaces in our cities. She will then turn the spotlight to examples of planning and management of sustainable landscaping in the Portland Metro area — work that is nationally recognized for its innovation and extensive public participation.

The Coordinator will engage clients in a temporary shelter setting with the intent of gathering demographic data to determine eligibility for case management. The Coordinator will perform screening interviews with clients. The Coordinator will have access to the larger program team for case consultation. This position will function as liaison between the program and administration and between the program and the city. The coordinator will be responsible for the maintenance of the shelter. The coordinator will collect and distribute statistics to Harbor Light administration and the city of Portland. The coordinator will be responsible for training new shelter staff.

Part-Time Match Support Specialist

Position Summary This position is responsible for providing support for a large caseload of one to one Youth/Adult matches ensuring child safety, positive impacts for youth, constructive and satisfying relationships between children and volunteers, and a strong sense of affiliation with BBBS on the part of participants. Support is provided through scheduled phone and email contact, with occasional in person meetings and activities. Matches are in both Community and School-Based programs. Position also entails some participation in agency-wide program development, outcome tracking, grant reporting, recruitment and fund-raising efforts.

Introducing the new racc.org

The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) launched a new and improved website today.  The site, www.racc.org, was built in-house using a colorful new design provided by Davison/Blackheart and back-end technology powered by the open-source Drupal content management system.

The new website immediately employs some useful new features, with room to expand and add more interactive tools in the weeks and months to come. Among the new features launching today:
