The Foster-Powell Neighborhood has invited the candidates for City Council to come and speak to voters this Tuesday.

All interested Portlanders are invited, so if you'd like a chance to hear from City Council candidates in an informal setting and grab a beer or a coffee at one of Foster Road's great local businesses, please plan on attending.

If you like what you hear from them, and they're a Voter-Owned Elections candidate, you'll have an opportunity to give them your $5 prior to the deadline on January 29th.

Living Earth is offering a residential retreat at Breitenbush Hot Springs April 11-14. This Thursday, January 21, you are invited to join us for "Up in the Air" starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick. "Up in the Air" was directed by Jason Reitman of "Juno" and "Thank You for Smoking" fame. Clooney plays a man whose job is to do the dirty work of firing people for corporations that don't have the decency to do it in person. His job keeps him in the air on a continual basis meaning he has no real home (a lifestyle he at first prefers). The movie appears to address a number of contemporary issues including the loss of soul in corporate America, rootlessness, an emotional homelessness, and our basic human need for connection.

Have experience in film, photography and social media? Do you have a passion for thinking creatively about new ways to communicate?

211info is looking for a volunteer/intern to help tell our story through video, photography, and social media. Volunteers (potentially art or media students?) would have the opportunity to create projects for their portfolios while gaining experience working in communications for an established nonprofit that serves Oregon and Southwest Washington. We need help designing our new blog, expanding our Facebook reach, creating videos to cast our vision and tell the stories of community members in need.

Time commitment: 2-8 hours a week for 3-6 months, depending on project need and volunteer's availability
