Summer Sings - Haydn's Creation

Join members of the Portland Symphonic Choir in the final Summer Sings of the season, Haydn's Creation. Considered Haydn's greatest work, the Creation is a sweeping oratorio depicting and celebrating the creation of the world. This sing-your-own-masterpiece will be conducted by guest conductor Dr. Steven Zielke of Oregon State University, and sung in English. Come check out a score and join us in the air-conditioned comfort of the state-of-the-art PCC Cascade Moriarty Arts and Humanities Building 705 N. Killingsworth, Portland. Tickets are $10, available at the door only.

Run for the River

3 Miles, 2 Bridges, 1 River

 

With the iconic Willamette River as the backdrop, The Freshwater Trust is partnering with the Portland Triathlon to launch the Run for the River 5K and 1K Stream Stride. The fun run will begin in Waterfront Park, circling you around the Willamette River through parks and over bridges and crossing a living finish line to end at the popular post-race festival. Enjoy organic food, local beer, festive music and interactive family-friendly activities.

Weight Management: Moving Beyond the Scale

Join bariatric surgeon Valerie Halpin, M.D., and Pam Evans, R.D., with Legacy Good Samaritan Weight Management Institute, as they discuss issues surrounding weight loss including: -Psychological factors -Do diets work? -Role of physical activity -Surgical options and outcomes

 

A question and answer session will follow the presentation, so bring your related questions.

The Food Works program at Village Gardens, partners with diverse youth from North Portland affordable housing communities to grow a business, grow their community, grow their organic farm, and grow themselves each season. We are currently accepting applications for the Academic Year Coordinator position. This position is an 11 month Americorps position that starts September 20, 2010 and through August 12, 2011.

Become a Foster Parent at Boys & Girls Aid

Boys & Girls Aid, a non-profit child welfare organization celebrating 125 years of service to children, is looking for adults to open their homes to youth in need of a family. We welcome compassionate, nurturing and responsible adults who are over 21 years of age, able to pass a criminal history check, have an Oregon drivers license and a safe driving record, have a separate room for foster children, and able to demonstrate financial stability.

FAMILY SERVICE-LEARNING PROJECTS

RFH Roots & Shoots welcomes families with children of all ages for family friendly service-learning projects in the Hillsboro/Beaverton/Aloha area.

 

UPCOMING: Please join us to launch our Rock Creek Trail waterway adoption in cooperation with SOLV’s Oregon Adopt-A-River program. We’ll start at Orchard Park in Hillsboro and work our way north to determine which section(s) of the trail we want to commit to. Gloves, bags, grabbing tools, and snacks provided.

 

This project is about more than trash cleanup: it’s is part of a series of future RFH R&S projects and field trips to learn about and care for watershed health, including participation in World Water Monitoring Day.
