Refuge Education Program needs volunteers!

Come help nurture the next generation of conservationists and spread appreciation for cultural and natural history ...

 

Fall Volunteer Training: Environmental and Cultural Education - Thursday September 9th, 10am to 3pm.

 

Fall is approaching quickly and students will be visiting the Refuge soon. We need many enthusiastic volunteers to share their interest in nature and inspire young minds.

 

Refuge volunteers receive many benefits including volunteer-only walks and talks, an annual catered dinner and annual summer BBQ, and other prizes and events throughout the year.

 

No experience necessary. All training provided.

 

- Learn how to engage students in the Plankhouse through hands-on activities.

Motivational Interviewing---Rolling With Resistance, Inspiring Change. Sept. 24th, 8:30-1:00

Purpose: This workshop will provide a brief overview of Motivational Interviewing with specific attention to practice skills associated with rolling with resistance. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to both learn about and practice various techniques and skills to work with clients who are not yet motivated, ready, or confident to engage in behavior change.

New Nonprofit Leaders' BootCamp Oct 14-16, 2010, at PSU

The Institute for Nonprofit Management at Portland State University is sponsoring a New Nonprofit Leaders' BootCamp in October. Please share information on this opportunity with anyone you think might benefit from it. This year, BootCamp will take place over three days Oct 14,15 and 16 on the Portland State University Campus with a special focus on turning crisis into opportunity. BootCamp is for new leaders to give them a firm grounding in meeting the challenges of running a nonprofit in today's environment. We are also including two special evening sessions for board members to work with new leaders on two important development issues: developing a leadership team and designing effective collaborations and partnerships.

Birdfest and Bluegrass - Special Event Volunteers Needed!

Join the fun and Help the Community!

 

Here are some of the areas where we need your help:

 

- Set up and take down tables, chairs, tents, put up signs, etc.

 

- Assist with Children's Activities at Davis Park

 

- Staff information tables at various locations around town and on Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. Assist with bus tours, parking and shuttle bus schedules.

 

- Serve as an "Ambassador" for the Friends of Ridgefield NWR at various locations around town.

 

- Sell commemorative buttons for Bluegrass Music events on Saturday, Oct 9.

 

- Check-in paddlers for kayak tours

Hospice Volunteers Wanted

Are you a well-rounded person with the desire to provide support to people who are in the last phase of life? If so, consider becoming a Hospice Patient Care Volunteer with Housecall Providers.

 

Housecall Providers is a nonprofit medical practice that provides primary care and hospice services to homebound seniors and people with disabilities throughout the Portland metro area. The hospice component offers physical, emotional, and spiritual support to our patients who are near the end of life.

 

Patient Care Volunteers complete 28 hours of training prior to seeing patients and may visit someone who lives in a care facility, run errands, or provide weekly respite visits so family members caring for a patient at home can have a break.
