Gather at the River – Grace Memorial Community Center Auction

When: Saturday, October 25, 2008 – 5:30 to 9:30 pm Where: Portland Yacht Club.

This event includes silent and live auctions with items at all prices, including great art and useful gift items, plus dinner and dancing. It is the primary fundraiser for The Grace Community Center, which hosts a wide variety of outreach programming, including a weekly Friday Community Dinner for the hungry, homeless, and socially isolated, 10 weeks of hands-on art experiences for more than 1000 children annually through Grace Art Camp, and numerous 12-step and support groups, social service agencies, neighborhood meetings and cultural organizations.

Introduction to Vertical Farming

Nov 5th at 7PM near downtown Portland

As part of his AmeriCorps year, Justin Davidson has created a presentation on Vertical Farming - growing crops indoors within a several story building using techniques such as hydroponics.

The purpose of this Community Action Project is to start a discussion about Vertical Farming and to rally together those who are interested in bringing sustainable agricultural alternatives to Portland.

Free training - Understanding Infant Adoption

Are you interested in free training, free CEUs, and a free meal? Do you work with clients who are pregnant or who may become pregnant? If so, this training is for you!

Understanding Infant Adoption is a nationally accredited training that is designed to help professionals working with pregnant women/teens (or women/teens who may become pregnant) discuss adoption as an option. This training provides education about, not advocacy for, the adoption option.

Topics include adoption law and practice in Oregon, special issues in counseling teens, birthfather rights and responsibilities, and non-directive, noncoercive counseling techniques. NASW-approved CEUs for social workers are available.

We currently have a full-time opening for a Primary Counselor in our Adult Residential Facility. Position will work a Sunday through Thursday schedule. Counselor provides professional treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. Candidates must be familiar with strength based counseling and have knowledge of dual diagnosis, SOC and MI. BA degree or equivalent CADC II required. DBT experience preferred. Youth Milieu Counselor (Full-Time Swing Shift) at De Paul Treatment Centers

De Paul serves the greater Portland community by providing drug and alcohol addiction treatment services. We are currently seeking a full-time Milieu Counselors to work at our Youth Alcohol and Drug treatment facility for the swing shift. Responsibilities include monitoring the behavior of our clients and intervening as appropriate, and assisting with day-to-day activities. Duties also include transporting clients, so applicants must possess an unrestricted driver’s license and be willing to drive a 15 passenger van. Knowledge of A&D, physiology or recovery preferred. AA degree and bilingual a plus. Position requires 2+ years’ continuous sobriety, if recovering.

Community Warehouse asks for donations of essential furniture and household items which are given to low income individuals and families who are clients of social service agencies in the metro area.  Most needed are twin, double and queen mattresses and box springs.  Our supply has never been so low.

Community Center Project Volunteer

PROJECT PLAN: • Research community centers in the Portland area that offer programs to the public. • Contact those community centers and ask them to distribute OMSI coupons to their visitors in exchange for a table to highlight their programs at an OMSI-hosted event. • Order and mail coupons to community centers with details about tabling event. • Organize set-up for events and serve as the onsite coordinator for the tabling event.
