Common Good Finance Informational Meet & Greet

Common Good Finance is working to start democratically run, common good banks in Portland, and around the country.

Please join us Thursday, July 9th from 5-7 at People's Co-Op in SE Portland. We will be answering questions, sharing the Common Good Finance video and talking about how we can work together to realize common good banks in our communities as soon as possible!

We have had an exciting summer thus far, gaining partnerships with for profits and non-profits such as Alberta Co-Op, The Sustainable Business Network of Portland and Paloma Clothing. To date we have over 340 sign ups in Oregon and Washington and nearly 1,900 around the world to date.

Like Farmers Markets and Meeting New People?

1000 Friends of Oregon, a statewide non-profit working to protect Oregon farmland and promote livable urban and rural communities, is looking for volunteers to join us at farmers markets and events this summer.

This volunteer opportunity is open to anyone living in the Portland Metro area (Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties) who cares about protecting Oregon farms and fighting urban sprawl. We're looking for volunteers to clipboard and table at farmers markets across the region to talk with shoppers about why we need to be preserving our local farms and supporting strong urban areas.

NWSA's Environmental Achievement Symposium

Join us for lunch to learn what this year's AmeriCorps members are achieving for the environment and our community, and network with other Portland-area environmental professionals.

The event will highlight four jury-selected projects presented by our members, and will include a poster session.

Lunch will be provided by Nicholas Restaurant, courtesy of Northwest Service Academy.

Volunteer Call- Columbia Slough Regatta 7/26

The Columbia Slough Watershed Council needs your help for our 15th annual Regatta on the Columbia Slough on Sunday, July 26th, 2009!  This annual celebration of the slough is the largest one-day paddle in Oregon. The Regatta offers views of riparian habitat that is home to over 175 species of birds, 25 species of fish, and a wide variety of mammals.  Enjoy hands-on activities, live music and visit with local environmental and water-based organizations.

Yoshida's Sand in the City is next weekend, July 17-19, and we are in urgent need of a 20'x20' tent for our Children's Inspiration Center.

Run for Congo Women - Call for Volunteers

Run for Congo Women, an annual event taking place in Lower Macleay Park on September 19th, 2009, is currently recruiting volunteers for pre-event duties. Examples include: coordination of finish line celebration tables, distribution of flyers and promotional material around Portland, helping out at our Bridge Pedal booth on August 9th, assisting with assembly of donated items and other event materials, and much more.
