Join Us for a Group Bike Ride Around Johnson Creek!

Saturday, September 25

 

Meet at 8:45am at Tideman Johnson Nature Park (SE 37th Ave. & Tenino St.) - The Bike Galley will meet us there for free small/minor repairs for your bike and to help us get things going!

 

What to Bring: Bicycle, bike helmet, water, and perhaps a snack

 

This flat, easy-paced ride will take us from Tideman Johnson Nature Park to Linneman Station and back, stopping at points along the way to learn about restoration projects and natural areas that are bringing fish and wildlife back to Johnson Creek.

Volunteers mentor youth transitioning from the GED program at SE Works into post-secondary education. They offer support, encouragement, and motivation to youth in their first few semesters of college. Mentors can work one-to-one, with groups, or provide specialized support surrounding life skills. We ask that volunteers are available for a period of 9 months to foster a lasting relationship with the youth. Mentoring times vary and depend on volunteer and participant availability. Expect to meet with youth once a week (additional phone or email contact may be needed) and attend occasional group activities.

The PMHNP works in conjunction with our Child Psychiatrist providing psychiatric/medical direction and consultation, as well as direct psychiatric services, to clients of Family Preservation System. The PMHNP works in collaboration with program managers and clinical supervisors to ensure quality medical care of consumers and quality clinical consultation and training to staff. The PMHNP collaborates with community partners, colleagues, and families to provide family-centered, strengths-based, individualized and tailored care to consumers of CCS services.

Dine Out, Rock Out for the Montavilla Food Co-op

Support the future Montavilla Food Co-op at three fun events this September and October!

 

Dine Out for the Co-op: Generous Glisan St and Stark St restaurant owners and merchants are joining the effort to help the Montavilla Food Co-op get off the ground. They will be donating a portion of their sales proceeds to the Co-op on designated days in Sept and Oct. Enjoy a delicious meal (or shop) in our great neighborhoods and help the the co-op at the same time.

Celebrate the 17th annual National Public Lands Day with the Friends of Tryon Creek and REI. Pull together to remove invasive English ivy and to protect our forest. Ivy out competes our native plants, takes over the forest floor and ruins precious habitat.

The Nonprofit Network Giving Circle is inviting applications from organizations that address housing and homelessness (including but not limited to: rent assistance, low cost housing, emergency shelters) for the 2010-2011 grant cycle.

Grant writer needed to mentor students at Heritage High School

Heritage High School students are writing grants to expand their Energy SMART program, http://www.evergreenps.org/energystar/Pages/HeritageCelebratesEnergySmartWeek.aspx, and they’re looking for a mentor to help guide them. This is a focused, on-track group that has faculty support. The commitment is 4-6 hours per month during the 2010-2011 school-year. Interested? Mentoring is a small investment in time that can make a big difference to a young person.

 

Neighborhood House, Inc. offers volunteer opportunities in North Portland and Southwest Portland.

 

* Be a Lunch Buddy to an elementary school student by having lunch together at school, talking, listening and sharing activities-and building a supportive relationship that contributes to improved self-esteem and social skills. * Mentor a youth (ages 7 to 14) for a couple of hours on the weekend or after school by sharing low or no-cost activities in a community setting and offering friendship, support and guidance. * Help a middle school student with their homework after school.
