The Community Housing Resource Center will be holding a free homebuyer orientation on Wednesday, July 21st, from 6-7:30PM at the Center. This workshop outlines the steps to homeownership and the services provided by the Center. No reservations are required. Solar Oregon Goal Net Zero Lecture

Solar Oregon's Goal Net Zero (GNZ) discussions are a great follow up for anyone that has attended a past GNZ tour or just wanting to learn more about net zero concepts, design and building science. Traditions and Transitions: Tribal Environmental Stewardship

On July 23, City Club hosts a discussion about tribal environmental stewardship with two representatives from the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Cheryle Kennedy, the Tribes’ Chairwoman, will provide an overview of the ways that treaty rights and federal recognition and laws impact the region’s Native Americans, while focusing her attention on what the Grand Ronde are doing to promote culturally informed land and forestry management. Tribal lawyer Lisa Bluelake will discuss inter-tribal and inter-governmental efforts to promote habitat protection, maintain safe fish consumption levels and safeguard cultural and historic rights and practices.

Nurse needed for non-profit YEA Camp

Youth Empowered Action Camp, a summer camp for 11-16 year olds who want to make a difference in the world, is based in OR and CA. We are looking for a licensed nurse to do light duty at our camp in Santa Cruz July 25-30th. You will be staying at a very nice retreat center and receive free meals and lodging in the beautiful redwoods of the Santa Cruz mountains in exchange for your volunteer service. Your duties will be minimal, including checking camper health forms, administering daily meds/vitamins, and tending to any (hopefully minor and infrequent) injuries. There are less than 20 participants. Most of the time you will be free to hike and relax. The amount of duty time per day is less than 30 minutes (except for check in on the first day).

SUMMARY Supervise an after-school Homework Club for low-income children residing in permanent housing. Create a supportive learning environment that fosters safety and promotes the completion of homework. Help students to focus on their intellectual and social competence.

 

HOURS: 6 hours per week, after-school on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30 or 4:00-6:00. Position starts on Tuesday, September 14th and runs through June 2011.

Found Object Printmaking Workshop at The ReBuilding Center

The ReBuilding Center is offering a one day printmaking workshop this Saturday. Learn to make prints out of the smorgasbord of salvaged building materials in our warehouse!

 

Found Object Printmaking

 

Exploration of fundamental, non-traditional and invented printmaking techniques to create prints from found materials. Print from the inventory of found objects available at The ReBuilding Center. Existing patterns, fabricated textures, interesting shapes or materials can be molded or modified to pull a print from by hand. Learn how to print without a press! For all skill levels.

 

Sat July 24, 9am-3:30pm

 

Tuition: $50

 

$10 material fee made payable to the instructor the first day of class

Calling all skiers, snowboarders, outdoor enthusiast and volunteers to show your love for Timberline Lodge!

 

Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood National Forest Friends of the Forest Day August 15, 2010 - 9:30 to 2:00pm

 

Unite with other volunteers and support restoration efforts around this National Historic Landmark lodge! Volunteers will take part in beautifying the area surrounding Timberline Lodge with a gorgeous up-close view of Mt. Hood through replanting efforts, trail maintenance and amphitheatre area refurbishing.

 

All ages are welcome!

Volunteer for Impact NW at SHINE Summer School!

Volunteer with the Summer SHINE School Program at Barnes Elementary School in Beaverton and play games, kick the soccer ball around, dig in the dirt and get paint on your fingers while having fun with kids!

 

Summer School Dates~ July 26 – August 19

 

Days~ Monday- Thursday

 

Times~ 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

 

Info~ You may volunteer one day, or as many days per week, as fits your schedule. All volunteers must complete a SHINE application and consent to a background check.
