Meet at 8:45am at Tideman Johnson Nature Park (SE 37th Ave. & Tenino St.) - The Bike Galley will meet us there for free small/minor repairs for your bike and to help us get things going!

What to Bring: Bicycle, bike helmet, water, and perhaps a snack

This flat, easy-paced ride will take us from Tideman Johnson Nature Park to Linneman Station and back, stopping at points along the way to learn about restoration projects and natural areas that are bringing fish and wildlife back to Johnson Creek.

Janus Youth Programs has the following positions available. Janus is a nonprofit agency providing community-based services, including residential and shelter care, to youth referred by OYA and/or DHS, as well as homeless and street-dependent youth. We operate facilities in Oregon and in SW Washington. Services also include alternative education (Lents Education Center) and an Urban Agricultural program. We are an agency that values diversity and values the contributions made by our staff in helping the youth we serve. All positions involve working together with strong, supportive teams to support and make a difference in a young person's life.

National Public Lands Day

Meet at the Tryon Creek Nature Center

Celebrate the 17th annual National Public Lands Day with the Friends of Tryon Creek and REI. Pull together to remove invasive English ivy and to protect our forest. Ivy out competes our native plants, takes over the forest floor and ruins precious habitat.

The Nonprofit Network Giving Circle is inviting applications from organizations that address housing and homelessness (including but not limited to: rent assistance, low cost housing, emergency shelters) for the 2010-2011 grant cycle.

Grants to tax-exempt organizations serving Clark County WA will be made in amounts between $500 and $5,000 depending on the size of the circle’s annual pool of funds.

Heritage High School students are writing grants to expand their Energy SMART program, http://www.evergreenps.org/energystar/Pages/HeritageCelebratesEnergySmartWeek.aspx, and they’re looking for a mentor to help guide them. This is a focused, on-track group that has faculty support. The commitment is 4-6 hours per month during the 2010-2011 school-year. Interested? Neighborhood House, Inc. offers volunteer opportunities in North Portland and Southwest Portland.

* Be a Lunch Buddy to an elementary school student by having lunch together at school, talking, listening and sharing activities-and building a supportive relationship that contributes to improved self-esteem and social skills. * Mentor a youth (ages 7 to 14) for a couple of hours on the weekend or after school by sharing low or no-cost activities in a community setting and offering friendship, support and guidance. * Help a middle school student with their homework after school.
