This year marks the 20th anniversary of the 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy protests at Tiananmen Square in China. The local Portland group of Amnesty International will commemorate the anniversary with an event on Saturday June 6th.

Women's Health Network, 2009 Thought Provoking Lecture Series

The Women's Health Network's Mission is to form a coalition open to all who share the goal to achieve health and healing for women in Oregon through advocacy, education, research, and networking.

Portland needs small, affordable houses. Bring your ideas and join us for this opportunity to create a roadmap of changes to make small houses and ADUs easier and less costly to develop. We'll dialogue with Eric Engstrom, coordinator of the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability's RICAP zoning review process, and Debbie Cleek, coordinator of the Bureau of Development Services' Local Code Amendment process and Technical Review Advisory Committee.

Washington County Champion Restaurant Tour May 27th - June 24th to Benefit Domestic Violence Survivors

Eat at any of the following restaurants on the given date with a flyer and a portion of your purchase will be donated to the Domestic Violence Resource Center!

This fundraiser is an easy way for everyone in the community to not only go out to a tasty meal, but also support survivors!  Please remember that without a flyer the restaurant cannot donate to our cause.  Don’t have a printer?  Let us know and we’ll mail you as many flyers as you need!  Just call Sarah at 503-640-5352, ext. 308 or email sarahk (at) dvrc-or (dot) org.  We hope to see you there!  This is a great way to get involved to support survivors in Washington County as well as have a special lunch or dinner out.  More information can be found at www.dvrc-or.org .

A Midsummer Night's Dream

For immediate release:

The Village Free School production of A Midsummer Night's Dream plays June 9th, 10th and 11th!

When: Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7:00.

Where: 8660 SE Foster---located on the campus of St. Peter's Catholic church ( we are unaffiliated, though!). Ample parking in the church lot, just drive in and follow the signs to the Village Free School.

Tickets: 10.00 for adults, 5.00 for kids 12 and under, and 25.00 for a four person blanket. Seats are limited, advance purchase is a good idea! You can buy tickets online at www.villagefreeschool. org

Village Building Convergence Volunteers Needed!

Hi Everyone!

City Repair's Ninth Village Building Convergence is coming up on June 5th to the 14th! It is a huge event in which volunteers from all over the states and the rest of the world come together to create beautiful community spaces throughout the Portland area. This work includes intersection paintings and beautification, building communal cob structures, community gardens, communal saunas and depaving. At night we all come together to listen to eat local and organic food, listen to speakers like Starhawk and Toby Hemmingway, and then dance to funky groovy music like Jujuba and Alpaca!
