Lents Founder's Day Picnic

Lents Founder's Day Celebration

Join the Lents community for the 17th Annual Lents Founders Day Celebration on August 17, 2008 at Lents Park near SE 92nd and SE Holgate. The Community Parade begins at 12 noon starting at the Wattles Boys and Girls Club and traveling north around Lents Park. The parade kicks off the event.

FREE food provided by the New Cooper Penny after the parade. Experience the thrill of discovery at the hands-on "Pioneer Living Exhibit and Displays". Music by the Providence Stage Band begins at 2pm, highlighting music from the "Grand Swing Era". Historic pictures, a free rock climbing wall, community information booths, and more.

The position will be classified as an Environmental Program Coordinator under the City’s classification system. This position is responsible for the development, and implementation of an environmental compliance program in support of the Water Bureau’s programs to protect the Bull Run watershed and Sandy River Basin in accordance with the federal Endangered Species, Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water Acts. The coordinator position requires considerable knowledge of relevant invasive species in Oregon, with a focus on plant species, their habitat impacts, and the techniques for restoring sites.

Teach clients to overcome typical rental screening barriers with Ready To Rent!

The next Instructor Certification Training will be held September 23-24, 9:00am-4:00pm, and September 25, 9:00am-1:00pm. Training will be located at the Portland Housing Center, 3233 NE Sandy Blvd. Registration fee: $350 for agencies located in Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, and Clark counties. Fee includes all training materials and continental breakfast. Those located outside the Portland area please call the Ready to Rent national office at 503-891-0476 for fee information. OMSI's Reptile and Amphibian Show Needs Volunteers!

Reptile and Amphibian Show! Labor Day Weekend August 29th - September 1st

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday

3 volunteer shifts available: 9:00 - 12:30, 12:00 - 3:30, and 3:00 - 7:00.

Crawl, slither and creep your way to this popular event. With nearly 200 assorted animals, it’s one of the largest reptile and amphibian shows in the Pacific Northwest. Check out a live animal demo, get “hands-on” in our special Reptile Handling Area, and learn from adult and youth experts.

Yes, it’s been a few years, but the Reptile and Amphibian Show has returned to OMSI! It will be taking place Labor Day weekend and we need lots of help.

Teach a class at Kelly Elementary SUN after school program

Kelly Elementary's SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) program is looking for college students who might be interested in teaching classes from theater, art, martial art, music to math for the Fall session that will start on September 29th through November 20th for 1 to/or 4 days a week and for an hour or two. Kelly SUN is dedicated to providing a variety of services ranging anywhere from energy assistance to parent support groups. Our students typically come from an ethnically diverse, low-socio-economic level with 84% of the students receiving free or reduced lunches. The SUN after school program offers a fun, safe place for students to spend their afternoon hours. Classes run Monday through Thursday, from 3:00-4:30 and 4:30-5:30.

Kelly SUN Internship: Extended Day Activities and Volunteer Assistant

The Sun School Extended-Day Activities and Volunteer assistant will work the SUN School manager and Extended Day Coordinator to provide opportunities for enrichment classes and activities after school. In addition the program occasionally provides opportunities for activities during school in-service days and evening family opportunities. The SUN School Extended-Day Activities Assistant will help the Extended-Day Activities Coordinator establish relationship with colleges, high schools and other partners to recruit volunteers and interns for SUN. We are looking for someone that can committ 10-12 hours per week.

Portland Impact is seeking volunteer mentors who are interested in being a consistent, positive role model to an elementary or middle school aged youth. Spend quality time building a trusting relationship while engaging in activities such as reading, games, homework, sports, and arts & crafts. Food Basket Delivery

Portland Impact is looking for a volunteer to deliver food to our home-bound women that live in the Rose Apartments. Portland Impact serves the women living in the Rose Apartments with a variety of social services to assist them in leading a self-sufficient life and transition out of homelessness. There are a handful of residents that are disabled and are not able to leave their apartments to pick up the food we distribute at the Community Food Basket. We are looking for a volunteer to pick up the assembled food baskets at our office on E. Burnside & 102nd and deliver the food to the residents at SE 6th & Taylor. Portland Impact vehicles are available for use upon approval of a DMV check.
